Model Exit

Naomi Sims has died of cancer at the age of 61. Sims was credited as breaking racial boundaries in modeling, appearing as the first black cover model of Ladies' Home Journal in November 1968. Born in Mississippi, but growing up a foster child in Pittsburgh, Naomi Sims first broke into the modeling business in the mid-sixties when she moved to New York City. She was also among the first to be represented by Wilhelmina agency

She also appeared on the covers of Life, Cosmopolitan and Essence.

Two photographs of her are featured in the 'The Model As Muse' exhibit currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art [until August 9,2009].

Crazy Files: Model/Bankrobber

Seems that modeling does not pay the bills like it used to, for the males anyway. Joshua Walters, a 20-year-old Ford model, was arrested for a June/July string of armed robberies. It seems that he, along with three accomplices, used their free time to rob places such as gas stations, 7-11, Dunkin' Donuts, random corner stores and all customers in said places at the time. Walters did whatever necessary to get the goods, including pistol whipping one victim, and walked away with $12,000-$15,000 for his share.

Robin Hood and his merrymen were caught on July 16th after the Queens auto larceny squad stopped them for a completely different reason. [Can we say unlucky?] The men immediately confessed to their crimes and were booked. Walters has walked the runway for Rag & Bone in addition to modeling for Hugo. Maybe Rikers will come out with bi-annual magazine. That way, his talents aren't wasted. SMH

Shawty What's Up?

Cassie Ventura, another of Bad Boy's "artist", had want many describe as a "Britney Breakdown." She shaved half of her head and boy is she feeling good about it. She states, "They ask why?? Lol... B/C I WOKE UP AND FELT LIKE IT!!! YEEEAHHH!!! LOL :) Have a great weekend!xx."

I can only assume she was going for the Alice Dellal look. . .she missed. Alice has style and presence, which is why she pulls it off so gracefully. Cassie just looks, awkward.

On the other hand, she got us to talk about her. Diddy has taught her well. I say she shaves off the rest on the day of her album release. Just a theory.

Boy, You're Just My Type

SO anyone who knows me knows I'm obsessed with the amount of talent over at Red Model Management. This agency possesses a huge array of the hottest working models at the moment. And located right here in New York. It makes me proud. They just posted another shoot which features two of my most favored (because I like them ALL) models. Check out Remington Guest and Salieu Jalloh killing it. The shoot has an old time, gangster feel. Of course featuring contemporary clothes. It's amazing. I like.

Shot & Captured: NEW MODEL: Dominique Hollington

I first heard about him in VIBE and in a few pictures with another upcoming model named Salieu but out of the two,Dominique definitely catches my eye. Not only is he from Harlem but he is truly just the dude next door. Check out this brief questionnaire with him from VIBE dot com.

"Name: Dominique Hollington
Agency: Red Model Management
Age: 19
My Hood: Harlem, New York

I Was Discovered…While shopping on 125th street in Harlem, it was the second time I ran into the agent so I knew he was serious. The first time I didn’t believe him and gave him the wrong number.

My First VIBE Photo Shoot Was…This August for the upcoming October issue. I got out of bed early at 5 am and we all got into a location van, the ride was about 2 hours to upstate NY. The location was a different environment for me since we were deep into the country and had to set up, and get dressed in a real barn.

I was with three other models and we all got along well, most were new to modeling. Memsor and his crew at Vibe were cool and the photographer made it easy for me to get into a groove. The clothes were crazy - I know we have great pictures. I had a great experience and I'm hoping to shoot for VIBE again soon.

For Fun I Like…playing basketball, listening to music, and MySpace.

The Five Songs I Bump On My iPod...
“A Milli” - Lil' Wayne
“Speedin'” - Rick Ross
“Splash” - Jim Jones
“What We Do” - Freeway feat. Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel
“Murda Murda ” - Juelz Santana

The Celebrity I’d Love To Be Shot With For VIBE Is....50 Cent or Jim Jones.

You can find Dominique in the "The New School" spread from the October 2008 issue of VIBE Magazine. "

*** I'm definitely in the works of trying to get a one-on-one interview with him. Stay Tuned!
