Miami Weather in NY

This heat is very stifling. Reminds me of Miami weather minus the scantily clad beach goers. So I decided to fix that. Here's Harper's Bazaar UK July 2009 editorial entitled: Miami Heat.

Don't you just love the vast array of colors?

Fashion or Bourde

Yesterday, Racked released the first photos of Leanne Marshall's (Season 5 Project Runway winner) Bluefly collection. I have to say, not impressed. The clothes look lackluster and just plain boring. After waiting for SO long, I expected that Leanne would bring the heat. On the show her pieces were elegant but exciting. Her Bluefly collection looks like clothes from the Gap made out of better material, but even that is questionable since we are not told what fabrics she used. At least the colors are nice. I sound like a little kid at Christmas wishing for a Nintendo DS and getting a book. Good, because that's exactly how I feel : disappointed. [FYI: Bourde = Mistake in French. Even if you dislike the clothes, at least you learned something.]

Check out this dress on her Etsy. I can't believe the dress above & below came from the same person. [Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, look at the pleats.] Regardless, will the real Leanne Marshall please stand up?!

Drake x Alexa = Awkward Funny

Alexa Chung talks to Drake about his new deal, his Kobe Bryant moment, breeding girls with big breasts, and his ideal pick up lines in under 10 minutes. Now after the 12year old girls dancing on stage at the BET awards during "Every Girl" with Young Money, I was really disappointed in Aubrey. This video redeemed him a little bit. He's back to his regular self, so I'll chalk Sunday up to bad influences [Lil' Wayne!].

All About Mike

This is my favorite MJ song of all time, I also loved his birthday song to Lisa on the Simpsons.

The site was under construction when the news of his death hit the masses.
A proper tribute to MJ will be coming shortly.

Be Green--- ReThread

How the world attempts to go green:

1. try to save
2. eat organic and
3. try to reduce, reuse and recycle.
4. buy clothes made in factories that eliminates all the hard work you did in steps 1-3!

But not to fear you clothing lovers!
Designers Beth Blake and Melissa Akey got their start nearly ten years ago with Thread Bridal, a collection of fashion-forward bridesmaid dresses that guarantee you'll look as good as the bride. Taking a cue from their success, the girls launched Thread Social in 2006 and have been making cocktail party dresses and accessories for the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal to Kelly Ripa.

Now, there's ReThread, the newest collection, cut from excess fabric into some of the season's most popular silhouettes. Think of it as an eco-conscious and economic way to dress your best; for example, the spring 2009 one-shoulder dress retails from $485 to $575 [yup, the one on all the runways]. ReThread's version made with pink gazaar? a "light" $185. Want more? A wool skirt with chevron stripes will set you back only $95, versus the fall 2009 taffeta one for $295. Despite the fact that ReThread collection is only available online--- and you have to wait to see what styles make the cut--- it's a great [and super un-thought-of-way] to get the most bang for your buck.

From Friends to Enemies

Friendships can naturally grow apart or something may happen within a friendship that can turn a close friend into an ultimate enemy.

Here are some tips how someone is guaranteed to become an enemy:

1. They play with your money. When someone owes you money just give it to them. Don't make a big fuss about it--- if that was the case you should've stayed your faggot ass in Brooklyn instead of traveling to South Beach with "bum pockets".

2.It's always about you. You have to be considerate--- imagine yourself in their shoes. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Don't act like a stink, dutty bee-yotch who doesn't care about anything since it's not affecting them. Please believe karma is real!

3.You're not genuine. We already discussed the drama but now you're trying to act up in front of company? Don't ever do that--- especially when the people you are showing off for could care less about you! You didn't even realize they were laughing at you and not with you! Haha---

4. You dodge responsibility. We are all adults and have to handle ourselves accordingly--- You MUST think before you act. You bring up the past & past favors in order to demand a person to do something for you. Don't be a dummy.

5. You're jealous--- enough said. My Grind '09 checklist is almost complete --- and yours? Yeah, I thought so.

In a good friendship you must apply things that were on the syllabus in kindergarten!

  • Be Considerate

  • Share--- b/c no one likes playing with a stingy ass person

  • Listen

  • Keep things in confidence --- snitches get stitches

  • Be yourself

  • Have good intentions --- badmind people never prosper!

  • Communicate effectively

  • Be humble & own up to your mistakes

Rest In Peace

The recession has done away with some of the things that we all took for granted. Whether it be the fact that you woke up every morning to a job and then were suddenly jobless or subscribed to some of your favorite magazines and then suddenly found out that the magazine is folding.

That's the case for workers and readers of VIBE Magazine.

The magazine officially folded today!

The June/July issue will be its last and the Web site will remain open for one more month, but without new content. The staff was in the middle of preparing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when they received the news.

"At the end of the day it's a tough environment for everybody but it's extremely difficult for magazines that depend on the fashion and auto categories," said Len Burnett, who helped launch Vibe.In a memo to staff, Vibe Media Group CEO Steve Aaron said the "collapse of the capital markets" and "the lack of investment resources to restructure the huge debt on our small company has made this outcome become a reality."

Here is the actual letter sentout to employees:

Dear VIBE Team:

It is with a heavy heart that I share some tough news, VMG is closing down effective today, June 30 due to lack of additional financial investments. It's been an 16 incredible years since VIBE's inception. There are very few magazines with the richness of history and breadth of talented visionaries who created the powerful lens in which VIBE viewed and shaped urban music and culture.
Ever since I first set foot in this courageous company, I've regarded myself as incredibly fortunate to be be involved with this remarkable brand and group of individuals whose performance has never been nothing short of outstanding.

We finished 2008 in an improved position versus the prior year, and accomplished so much, including:

-Editorial Awards

-Editorial transformation into content dept

-New Ad accounts being broken

-The Most Mag Launch

-Award winning re-design

-Profitable digital operation

-VIBE.com growth and improvements and programs such as Best Rapper Ever, #1 Stan, etc.

-Mobile VIBE launch

-Micro-site development Mostmag.com to start off.

-V Sessions

-Improved PR coverage
Unfortunately, over the last several months, a confluence of events has obviously posed VMG to exceedingly serious challenges. The collapse of the capital markets has impacted us greatly. Over the past several months, we have actively pursued investment resources while working intensively with our bank to find a solution. But the deal market right now remains very poor and at the end of the day, the lack of investment resources to restructure the huge debt on our small company has made this outcome become a reality. The print advertising collapse hit VIBE hard, especially as key ad categories like automotive and fashion, which represented the bulk of our top 10 advertisers, have stopped advertising or gone out of business. It's also unfortunate that in a recession many companies reduce the multi-cultural campaigns. These facts, coupled with the continuing decline of the music industry not to mention the newsstand wholesaler consolidation in early 2009 all negatively impacted our business in a significant way.The relentless economic situation has depressed our growth initiatives on the digital front. To be clear, VMG has made significant improvement in this part of our business, but not at the accelerated pace required to offset the devastating effects of the most severe recession in our lifetime and the accompanying print losses.I want to thank you all for your hard work and commitment, and for all of the adventures along the way. I'll miss this place a lot, but I'll miss you all and the magic you create. Vibe will be remembered as a shockingly brilliant content company that everyone can be proud of and I look forward with great excitement to all of future endeavors you all pursue.

With great affection and respect—
Steve

I actually liked Vibe--- especially the fashion editor, Memsor Kamarake.

Umm.

Everyone has been crazy excited over the past few weeks because of the highly anticipated debut of Kanye's Air Yeezy's. I've been crazy busy with schoolwork and the whole nine but I saw some pictures and I'm not so sure what all the hype is about. I definitely don't think the sneaker itself is all that -- ok, the first colorway is decent but so what?!?!--- with these being priced at $215.00 [then add the various state taxes] these are so not worth it to me.

That $215.00 could buy so much more.
Ex: Groceries, 1/8 or 1/32 of a Louis Vuitton handbag [depending on which style you want, lol] , 1/2 of some Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, pants from Dior Homme, an MJ purse, 2 pairs of RayBans, or even a car note.
But nope, let's just give Kanye our money because we "oh so fascinated with his fashion sense". Listen, I appreciate Kanye Omari West just like any of you --- but let's be real, he is definitely not paying your bills and it's baffling my mind to see hoards of people willing give up their money for those "not popping" sneakers and help him pay his!

I think I'm the only person on Earth who feels this way, but hey -- if you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything!

Shawty What's Up?

Cassie Ventura, another of Bad Boy's "artist", had want many describe as a "Britney Breakdown." She shaved half of her head and boy is she feeling good about it. She states, "They ask why?? Lol... B/C I WOKE UP AND FELT LIKE IT!!! YEEEAHHH!!! LOL :) Have a great weekend!xx."

I can only assume she was going for the Alice Dellal look. . .she missed. Alice has style and presence, which is why she pulls it off so gracefully. Cassie just looks, awkward.

On the other hand, she got us to talk about her. Diddy has taught her well. I say she shaves off the rest on the day of her album release. Just a theory.

She Rockin That Thang ...

DimePiece releases their new collection for summer 2009 called Plastic City. The collection mainly focuses on graphic tunics and scoop neck tops, but graduates into including a geometric zig zag mini skirt and a tuxedo tail vest. A definitely different look from DP && I love it!

The Plastic City collection is bold and in your face giving the wearer a sense of raw edge you don't see in other streetwear lines.

And they’re not the only ones: Cartier, Judith Ripka, Di Modolo, Damiani, Gucci, Maurice Lacroix, and Coach are all marking down their jewelry and watches as well.
A mob scene is guaranteed to ensue, because this kind of jewelry never goes on sale.
