Fall 09 Trend: Blazers

Balenciaga. Christian Dior. Christian Lacroix. Rag&Bone. Zac Posen

Take a cue from the runways. Blazers are still hot, but they need something extra. Voluminous sleeves, a mixture of materials or just an interesting shape. Knowledge is power. Don't get left behind.

Rewind: No Take Backs!

After expressing my dislike of Leanne's line, we get to see it on models. I do admit that the blue gown [made of silk & organza] has grown on me after seeing it on a model. Overall though, my opinion stands. Not her best work. In fact, I think my opinions were REINFORCED after visiting her site and taking a look at her Fall 2009 collection. Now there's something actually worth $990 [the price tag of her blue ballgown]. But hey, I'm just a blogger. The line will be available on July 8th [finally] on Bluefly and has a wide price range, from $98-$990. Get ready to shell out those bucks to support the starving Brooklyn artist.

[Personally, I prefer the dress Leanne is wearing.]

Fashion or Bourde

Yesterday, Racked released the first photos of Leanne Marshall's (Season 5 Project Runway winner) Bluefly collection. I have to say, not impressed. The clothes look lackluster and just plain boring. After waiting for SO long, I expected that Leanne would bring the heat. On the show her pieces were elegant but exciting. Her Bluefly collection looks like clothes from the Gap made out of better material, but even that is questionable since we are not told what fabrics she used. At least the colors are nice. I sound like a little kid at Christmas wishing for a Nintendo DS and getting a book. Good, because that's exactly how I feel : disappointed. [FYI: Bourde = Mistake in French. Even if you dislike the clothes, at least you learned something.]

Check out this dress on her Etsy. I can't believe the dress above & below came from the same person. [Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, look at the pleats.] Regardless, will the real Leanne Marshall please stand up?!

Bye, Bye Bryant

According to the L.A Times:

"New York's biannual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will move from its current home in midtown's Bryant Park to Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center beginning in September 2010, said Fern Mallis, senior vice president of IMG Fashion, which produces the shows.
The new location will have 25% more room than the old location, but it is farther uptown than the tents at Bryant Park, which could make it all the more challenging to lure designers, many of whom already show in Chelsea or SoHo instead.

This season, which begins Feb. 13, will include more than 70 shows. In 2006, the Bryant Park Corporation announced it would no longer allow the shows to happen in the park, because they were interfering with public use of the area but later relented. The events are fashion tourism bringing in hundreds of thousands of attendees and around $466 million in visitor spending each year, according to the New York City Economic Development Corporation and the NY Times reports that IMG pays $1 million to $1.5 million to use the space each season."

Now Is Not The Time... smh

When Saks , Henri Bendel [my fave store] and Prada are having up to 80% off sales... you know that something is going down. However, Versace refuses to be part of the nonsense.

... "We want to offer a real luxury and not to open our doors to the consumption of young girls who can put the designer handbag of their dreams on their arm with less than 300 Euros. We are not interested in that."

They need to stop acting brand new and join the damn club!

Reccession= Depression

As a New Yorker, there is nothing I love more than Mercedes Benz fashion week. Everyone who is anyone is in town [although I'm up at school... boooooo!], the parties are fabulous, the style on the street is impeccable and my favorite ... everything around 42nd street & Broadway are effn crowded to rass! =[

However this upcoming fashion week may not be as heavy -- or hot[ it's Feb] as we're used to. WWD has reported that DKNY, Vera Wang, Carmen Marc Valvo and Betsey Johnson have decided to do private viewings of their collections instead of putting on a costly runway show. J. Mendel, Monique Lhuillier and Reem Acra are also considering other options for February.

Bummer.

Bummer!

WWD reports "For Russian teenage design phenom Kira Plastinina, it looks like a quick rise and fall in theAmerica. American sources close to the company said many, if not all, of the 12 Kira Plastinina stores in America could close soon. Difficulties were pegged to the declining fortunes of Plastinina’s father, Sergei Plastinin, a tycoon in the dairy and fruit business in Russia, who bankrolled the U.S. rollout and was heavily invested in the Russian stock market. Shortcomings in how the chain was operated and the impact of the recession in the U.S. were also cited.

The launch of Kira's store started off with a big bang. She had fashion shows attended by Hollywood socialites and A-listers. I expected lots of success, especially since her clothes are affordable and uber cute.

Check out her site below.

Real or No Chance At All!

which one is the real LV?

...clearly the one with Louis Vuitton markings; so why would anyone purchase the one with 'M' on it?
I'm tired of seeing people with fake LV bags and luggage. My motto is "real or not at all" and guess what? I don't have one and I would never stoop to buy a fake one. My pretty little hands couldn't hold it without thinking that everyone is eye-ing my leather.
Anywho, LV won a $3.5 million dollar counterfeiting suit against a Chinese company who makes counterfeit LV goods.

Finally--- Something For Buffalo

Being that I am in Buffalo half the year for school, I go through hell and high water just to find some flyy ass clothes that are cute, have personality and that everyone and their mother won't be seen wearing since the only place to shop is the mall or make the drive to Toronto where all the stores are better but you pay more with the Canadian dollar. =(

But it seems as if my woes have been heard-- Thank God!

Designer Adam Lippes will be opening a pop-up store in B-Lo!

The store is slated to open Oct. 10. and will be located at 5454 Main Street, the 4,000-square-foot space will house the entire Adam collection for women and men. Since it is a pop-up store,it will close just after the New Year. However it will be one of the first places where shoppers can find the designer’s modern basics collection, consisting of tissue-thin jersey T-shirts, viscose and cashmere hooded wrap tops, draped open-neck jersey dresses, viscose waffle-knit long-sleeve crewneck tops and ponte knit leggings.

“I have always been fascinated by the idea of a pop-up store in an outer market,” Lippes said. “I particularly love Buffalo, since it is where I grew up and spent my formative years.”

Mr. Lippes was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2007, which means he has officially made it, all due to hardwork and lots of determination.

In 2003, Adam decided to pursue his dream of creating wearable yet luxurious cotton basics after working for seven years at Oscar de la Renta. His desire to “fuse fashion with the perfect white tee” began with a global search for manufacturers of the finest cottons, cashmeres, and wools. Adam launched his eponymous label at Saks Fifth Avenue in spring of 2004. Since then, the business has grown from luxury basics into a full sportswear collection.

Adam flagship store is located:

678 Hudson Street, New York, NY 10011

Dorothy Gale Was A Fly Chick

Believe what you want, but it is true. Which is why an assortment of designers went to work on redesigning those red slippers the witch wanted so badly. Yes, she recognized fashion & wanted some for herself. In commemoration of 70 years (next year) of the Wizard Of Oz, they have been asked to produce their take on those ruby red shoes.

Nineteen designers including big names like Diane von Furstenberg, Christian Louboutin, and Manolo Blahnik have designed shoes that will be shown everywhere from Byrant Park to Saks in order to raise money for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. It is an amazing thing.

Two pairs of the same shoe will be created by each designer so one of them can be auctioned off. Pictures have recently surfaced on the web of some of the final designs. Imagine the money that is going to be thrown around for these. . .

1st - Betsey Johnson
2nd - Botkier
3rd - DVF
4th - Jimmy Choo
5th - L.A.M.B
Last - Tuleh.

Fashion Week Is Upon Us

And boy is it going to be exciting. Ms. Posh Spice herself is presenting a few pieces of her line to a small audience. Mr. Andre 3000 will be there with his fashion line. Every time you turn the corner, someone relatively new is presenting. But of course you can't forget the regulars like DVF. And the best part of fashion week? All the parties of course! It's why half the celebrities even attend. What a great time live in New York. The schedule is above along with a link to some of the parties, courtesy of NyMag.

Wallace & Gromit The Future (Men) Kate Moss?

Harvey Nichols has started a new poster campaign featuring the characters for his store opening in Bristol. It makes sense that he would use them since Aardman, based in Bristol, created them. The cool thing is that their regular outfits were switched for fashion upgrades.

In the above picture, Gromit can be seen in a Paul Smith scarf, made from navy silk. Wallace wears an Armani tie, D&G white shirt, and Alexander McQueen's cashmere jacket in navy & silk trousers of the same color.

In this shot, Gromit wears the Duchamp silk scarf with purple stripes & red Ray Ban wayfarer sunglasses. Wallace is a bit more covered up with a Paul Smith two-piece, gray suit of wool.

Lady Torrington is wearing the Alexander McQueen Acorn dress made of black jersey. Her shoes are Louboutin, the red patent Triclo. Her bag is a metallic Puffy bag from Zagliani.

Photography was done by Giles Revell.

Start Scheming!

Yves Saint Laurent will be handing out thousands of free bags come Sept. 6. The limited edition cotton totes, designed by Stefano Pilati, are the latest wrinkle in the French house’s ongoing “Manifesto” program, in which newspaper-style catalogues are handed out to women on the streets of key fashion cities. More than half a million copies of the catalogue will be distributed in Paris, New York, London, Milan, Tokyo and Hong Kong, with 5,000 in each city tucked into the black or white totes.

Target Pop-Ups

Following behind big people like Colette, Target is creating pop-up stores all over New York. They are called Bullseye Bodegas and will be up from September 11-14, coinciding with NY Fashion Week. There will be four locations: Midtown at 57th, Union Sq btwn 11th & 12th, Soho at Broome, and East Village at Bowery. Each store will be open from 10AM-10PM and will feature items from Target's many collaborations. That includes 22 designers who created products of many categories from clothing to house wear. I'm sure there will be complete mayhem. Put your Nikes on.

Doggy Bags. . .The LV Way

You have to admit this is just weird. This was created by Meryl Smith for Honey Space. The artists were asked to create sculptures that fit the measurements for international carry-on luggage. Smith created it back in April, but now that it's all over the net, she better watch out. We all know how Vuitton loves the lawsuits.
